The triangle symbolizes the three major programs of the union:
· Representation |
|
If the triangle is broken on any side, sooner or later it will be broken on every side. CWA's founding President, Joseph Bierne, called this the "triple threat".
One of our primary responsibilities is to see that the contract is not violated and that our members are treated fairly under the contract language. When an employee feels that he/she has not been treated accordingly, they have a right to grieve in the issue. This is when the Union gets involved, through a job steward or other union official.
We are actively involved in community services throughout our Local. We sponsor golf tournaments each year along with the Georgia Sheriff's Association. All proceeds from these tournaments are donated to the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes. Our donations were approx $20,000 for 2000. Also, during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Seasons, we sponsor food, clothing and Christmas gifts.
Our Local is also involved in politics and we encourage our members to be as well. We have had a very successful COPE drive recently. COPE is our political PAC fund, which enables us to make donations to candidates supported by CWA. Each year during our Legislative Session ( January through March ) of each year, CWA members are involved through the CWA Political Council to introduce and pass bills that affect the working class people of Georgia, in addition to telephone/telecommunications workers.
Please keep all the victims and the states affected by Hurricane Katrina
in your thoughts and prayers.
